The Montgomery County Fiscal Court is made up of the County Judge/Executive, Floyd Arnold and three County Commissioners, Gary Amburgey, Lloyd "Moon" Cassidy, and Kenny Jones. The Montgomery County Fiscal Court is the decision-making body for local county government. There are many departments affiliated with the Fiscal Court including the Montgomery County Regional Jail, Montgomery County Road Department, Solid Waste Coordinator, Building Inspector, Emergency Management Services, Animal Shelter, Treasurer, Finance Officer, Occupational Tax Administrator, etc.
Responsibilities of the Office of The County Judge Executive
- Promotes Industrial & Economic Development
- Authorizes Industrial Revenue Bond Issues for Industrial Development
- Promotes Community Development
- Pursues Grants and Other Funding Opportunities for County Projects
- Provides Local Health Services
- Supervises County Employees
- Oversees Emergency Management Services
- Maintains County Owned Buildings
- Keeps County Roads and Streets in Good Condition
- Oversees Finances of Regional Jail
- Replaces Unsafe Bridges
- Declares State of Emergency During Disasters
- Provides E911 Service to County Residents
- Assists Senior Citizens
- Supports Parks & Recreation
- Oversees Cleanup of Illegal Dumps
- Provides White Goods/Tire Removal/Cleanup Programs to Keep County Clean
- Assists Public Water & Sanitation Districts
- Manages Approximately $10,000,000 Yearly County Budget
- Approves all Payments Made by the County
- Invests County Money
- Approves County’s Revolving Loan Program for Business Development
- Purchases Property & Equipment for Development and/or County Use
- Manages Numerous Leases with the State for Office Space
- Sets County Property Tax Rates
- Enacts County Ordinances and Regulations
- Appoints Individuals to Serve on Over 20 Boards and Commissions
- Oversees Animal Shelter
- Board Member of Numerous Kentucky Association of Counties Departments
- Performs Weddings
The Montgomery County Road System is maintained by the Road Department. This includes mowing and snow removal.
The Montgomery County Animal Shelter helps to keep the pet population under control while working with the local Humane Society to try to get animals adopted.
With the help of a grant from the state the county pays for dead animal removal.
Each Friday the city and county host a lunch for the local senior citizen population. We provide a community room to be rented out for a small fee for special events. Each month a volunteer from the County Judge’s office hands out commodities to senior citizens.
The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program awards us with funding to help local citizens in need of emergency help with rent/mortgage or utilities.
Each year the Fiscal Court participates in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake raising money for these worthy organizations.
